Epiphone Electric Guitars
Long before the invention of the electric guitar, the present day Epiphone guitar company had its beginnings in
Turkey in 1873. Anastasios Stathopoulos, founder, relocated in the U..S. just after the turn of the century and when he died in 1915, his son “Epi” took over the company. Labor problems were plaguing the company in NYC so Epiphone moved to
Philadelphia. In 1957 Gibson bought the company and began making Gibson Epiphones in it's Kalamazoo,
Michigan plant . In the late 60’s
U.S. production ended and Epiphones were imported from
Japan and later Epiphone guitars were being manufactured in
Korea.
